A lot of advice floats around and my advisors are constantly giving me advice. There’s this contradiction set up that’s ‘use your own voice but write like we do.’ You know, in a way, I think that tension is okay because I think you should remember you are being trained to write in a certain way and that’s fine. But you still have to find your own voice in writing, in that way. Which, I think that even the most mature people in our fields struggle with, right? But the best advice is to read more. Read outside of your discipline. For example, I read a lot of literature and poetry to get some energy about different ways of writing.”
