“I’m writing an academic comic for submission to a journal of multimodal rhetoric. I make web comics and I draw and everything, but in a Ph.D. program, I’m obviously writing scholarly articles in your standard 30-page thing. But this [project] is overlapping them in ways that you have to think about things differently to have both a script and written word and have it interact with the images. It’s two very different kinds of writing, and so working on that has been really interesting, and is making me think about writing in ways that I haven’t necessarily before. I’ve done each, right, but as their own separate thing. You can take bits and pieces, but having them intersect with each other is its own new kind of adventure.”
